"Thank you so much for your professionalism and high expectations for this work. I already sensed that this is going to be an exceptional and rewarding learning experience that will have a lasting effect on the lives of our students, parents and staff." Jorge Perdomo, Principal

"TechKNOW Associates has been working with 4 of my staff members this year to teach them how to integrate technology into their teaching/learning cycle. I can’t say enough about the success of this project.

The teachers learned classroom management skills, technology skills, and implementation skills all at the same time. This was truly hands-on learning for the teachers. The students, in turn, experienced powerful learning with high interest and with high expectations for performance.

Their trainer’s expertise, energy, and patience with teachers in all levels of their learning was exceptional. He definitely understood the stages of professional growth and paid attention to each individual in their work. I highly recommend TechKNOW and the work they are doing.

We are hoping to have TechKNOW return next school year to continue this powerful work.

Virginia D. Clark, Principal
Greenwood Elementary School"

"This is the way to teach my classes. I can’t believe the way my students are working and learning. I used to be in the rut, got to cover this and teach them that. Now, I set my classes up…okay, Purple, Green, Orange, and Yellow groups, you will continue with your research. Red and Blue groups, you will start working on…and they’re off. The day just flies by. The kids are busy working on various projects and I’m there to support them when they need me."

"This project has opened my eyes on how to use technology effectively. Having computers in the classroom and using like we now do makes technology part of everyday learning."

"I will never go back to the way I was teaching. This is so much better. I’m excited about teaching and my students are excited about learning."

"This is the way professional development should be done! I've gone to plenty of workshops and conferences. The handouts and books are sitting right there on that shelf. Having a professional developer in my room, working with me and my students, showing me how to implement the project plan, has opened my eyes as to what can be done. The last three days have been incredible. My students have never accomplished so much in so little time. They are really focused and engaged in their work!"

"Each class has given me the opportunity to take my teaching to another level that will allow my students to grow."

"The presentations were outstanding! They were all informative, presented in a very practical, easy to understand format. I would love to have all of these projects for my district."

"I have been teaching math for 33 years. This is the best presentation I have ever seen!"

"I would like to participate in more workshops like this!"

'Outstanding!' Learning became part a part of life for all participants to improve instruction."

"Great Job! This is something that we should have been doing years ago."

"Really excellent workshops...I will recommend them to my colleagues..."

"High Quality"

"The entire workshop was excellent and helpful!! Thank you!"

"This was very enlightening; hope we can have many more of these in the future..."

"Please remember me for future workshops, loved it!"

"Terrific!! Marvelous!! Thank you so very much! It was well worth the $40.00 cab ride here!"

Arapaho for "Welcome to the school of the long robe."

TechKNOW staff developers worked with the Arapahoe Tribe of the Wind River Reservation - Fort Washakie, WY on their project: "Voices of the Wind River".

Funded by an IMLS grant, our trainers helped create an interactive experience for Arapahoe Tribe of the Wind River Reservation elders, community members, and students at the St. Stephen's Indian School, allowing for the examination and discussion of Arapaho artifacts held by the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This videoconference project was spurred by the desire of the elders to improve access to Arapaho cultural artifacts scattered in museum collections throughout the world in order to preserve tribal identity and share it with the tribe’s children. Prior to the videoconference, teachers will work with TechKNOW curriculum developers, tribal elders, and community representatives to develop a curriculum aligned to state standards. The Arapaho students who participate in the project will build on the experience by creating their own virtual Arapaho museum and presenting a tour of it to the entire community.

Visit the St. Stephen's Indian School Virtual Museum Project Blog to see a record of their journey through this project.

Where Does the Water Go?, National Project

birds

Where Does the Water Go? is an ongoing project that provides students with an opportunity to explore complex issues and take action in their own community. As students focus on relevant, real-world problems, they build content and critical thinking skills.

Where Does the Water Go? engages schools in a three-year study of a local body of water. Each year, students visit a chosen site on a regular basis to monitor the quality of the water and the health of the local ecosystem. By conducting a wide variety of hands-on, inquiry-based activities and scientific investigations, and by collecting and interpreting data, they become local experts on this body of water.

As schools from Florida, Nevada, New York and other various geographic regions participate in the Where Does the Water Go? project, a global picture of our water supply will develop and evolve. Students utilize technology to contribute findings and share information with participating schools, using online communities such as the Where Does the Water Go? web portal, blogs and ezines. They will draw on their knowledge and understanding to propose and implement a plan of action to conserve, protect, or restore this body of water.
