Grades 9-12 The "Sixties" were an exciting, revolutionary, and turbulent time. It was a time of great social, technological, and political change. From the Civil Rights movement to the Vietnam War… from the first man to step on the moon to Woodstock, the rock concert that defined a generation… this was a decade of controversy and divisiveness. Now you can experience this time in history from the point of view of those who lived through it. The Sixties: Loud and Clear is an interdisciplinary project that uses technology to broaden your students’ learning experiences. It is designed to provide students with a deeper, richer understanding of events in the 1960s as they develop research, questioning, and listening skills. Designed for middle- and high-school students, the project is driven by the national standards of several disciplines, including social studies, geography, language arts, mathematics, and the arts. The project involves students in a simulation of working for a television station to create a series of mini-documentaries on important events of the 1960s. Over the course of the project, students will work cooperatively to conduct general research of the decade as well as take an in-depth look at one specific topic.
